The sound
The sound of this masterpiece is one of the best heard from a TDA1541 based CD player ! At this level I admit, it was a little bit inaspected by the "basic" TDA1541A-R1" .
To be true on the paper this is not the worst :

I Think there's a very little audible difference among all the 1541 vesion! I never heard the S2 based players!
I heard only one player (not tubed) tda1541 based, sound at this level : the Revox B-226 with TDA1541A-S1
The Revox was probably a micro-tad more precise and the CD-40 is a tad more 3D and holographic! It's an hard challenge!
When the 6n14p get warm you can reach the very best of the sound.....the bass is so deep ,strong and controlled that results incredible considering it's a tube stage out; medium range are so accurate , detailed and only slightly colored that you could listen at Leonard Cohen voice for hours and ours at the same time enjoying the extended beautiful voice of Patricia Barber shivering at every her whisper!
It gives Jazz the real dimension , the real pace and finally the spark that makes you tipping your foot on the floor!!!!
