Sony CDP-750 6N1P Tube output stage


The old TDA1541 wins again inside Sony!!!!!

Conclusions

The russian OTK 6N1P combined with our well known TDA1541 makes this device a real giant killer!

In comparison it has completely overwhelmed a poor Rega Planet Rega sounds pimp and warm colored that in first time could be even pleasant , but after the Sony listening it start to became somehow boring to listen in comparison........somehow more compressed ,less coherent about instruments representation ... with a narrower soundstage.

The neck of the bottle another time are opamps!!...... and poor Rega uses opamps .As I always said , pure tube output stage gives a stunning realistic ,3D and holographic listening impression, where you're no more in front of a couple of speakers, but you feel deeped in all the 3 dimensions of the scene..... feeling each instrument exactly where it has to stay.Even many expensive CD players aren't able to avoid this lack.

The magic is the good project: studying case by case the inner D/A conversion chip and find the best alchemy with the tube you decided to match with!But don't forget: sounds is a beautiful lady and needs to change even dress from time to time!!!!!Our Sony CDP750 now shows a new beautiful charming clothing that I'm sure will like to many many men!!!! ;)

    This is a very interesting mod with a custom design with great specifics ....pls don't be offended if I feel bored to talk about the brand of components! This of mine wont be a commercial blog such as many others , with commercial links and piloted posts just to earn money talking about brands! Yes it's true....among high valued brands there are the most of good components ,but there are many good components amond unbranded or unknown brands and sometime are better than branded components!
    What about green polypropylene caps?!? they are chinese unbranded!!!!! But IMO the work very very good! Speaking of brands they works better than a WIMA and almost the same of sprague wich I like so much! I have to try soon how tantalum works for this duty.....for other jobs tantalum caps and Sanyo OSCON are the best(they works well only with low voltage), but not when you work with high voltage like in tube stage !
    Anyway my friends I
    if your mind is focused on brand please , better you know that mine is differently tuned!
    Anyway I compared this player with a Musical Fidelity CDT (Tube CD Player) , a rega planet , Nad s500 and a rotel RCD971 and this was the best over all of them by far .
    All of them are plenty of high regarded branded components.....but......what are we talking about?????! ......what's the weight on the balance??? .... good design vs good components.....the answer is good designs first at all!!!!! .....well chosen components for each different duty over the brand.....and the last is the brand which is important too, since it is in some way a warranty of quality ..... when the tricky market don't take advantage of that! 90's where the years when market started to be very tricky ....in these years the hidden rules of biggest audio brands were'nt give people quality, but earn money taking advantage by the past wave of best hi-fi quality of 80s .
    The job of a good modifier if find out good design , find out all the weakness (design and components) and work on them!
    That's what I want to do!
