......Heavy or lighter......
.... To recall the speech about the weight of " CD Player" is something totally apart from the age of production. The audiophile CD players are almost all very heavy ....i mean 8_20Kg ..... this because the weight ensures lower incidence of the vibrations transmission on the laser reading truck and therefore less jitter error on digital translation ......... in some way , similar to what happen in the analog turntable.
New players may be too, heavy or light but sometimes a case constructed very well does not indicate much care about the project ....... and a speech individually.
What makes the difference between old and new players essentially are the new conversion chip ... and actually the trend is more toward 24-32 bits while in the 80's the threshold was for 16bit sigma delta etc. The lattests projects often use very fast operational-amplifier in LPF filter, that does not always means it sounds good .... even if there is a general tendency to look at datasheet and not really listen to the sound quality .... this about this I might say some nice !!!!!!
The "new" does not always translate into mere musicality, the example is venerable TDA1541 that sounds better than most of the current 24bit is a 16-bit and is clear that if it is implemented with a great design and a heavy case turns its sound to heaven and its performance will be at the top !!
The weight means quality at all???...not really....it helps a lot the very good designs but...................I had listened at very light CD Player with sounds quality far over the heaviest Player on this earth!!!!!
....don't forget: Enjoy the music !!!!!!!
