I did some mod on both the PCBs: obviously NO opamp on DAC pcb and swap the critical capacitors for in digital circuit for Sanyo Oscon, swapped the old tranformers for toroidal, swapped the chinese tube with the english ECC82 by Brimar , and swapped the old cap with AudioCap ones.
...the latest version with toroidal transformers
...at this point decided to add a second mosfet based output MaoAudioLab to challenge with these miths.
...the early version
the ST BS170 signal mosfet ,a couple of Nichicon fine gold, bypassed by tantalum caps, a bunch of polypropilene, a minimalistic and good design and the game is done
The Sound
this is a very good sounding DAC in both the output , both tube and solid state.....Tube section is more dark sounding, a kind of smooth soundind with a quite heavy bass and sweet middle, maybe too sweet for my taste; the mosfet side appears more revealing with less room compared to tube but more precise and realistic with a satisfying dynamic and a quite neutral presentation.
"Il mostro" such as some newest device are still hard to beat and not only 'cause are my creation (MaoLampucera in some way is) but simply 'cause listening at this DAC such as some my newest jobs you can litterally flow on the nothes during the listening ...this s what I call "Nirvana"
